Blog Not Wiki

I've decided not to try and make this blog a campaign wiki...so kindly ignore all the previous Shattered Star stuff.

Location Location Location

The campaign takes place in a northern, west coast, country called Varisia.  There is a beautiful player friendly gazetteer in the Rise of the Runelord Player's Guide. Please at least skim it and read the sections on the Lost Coast, Magnimar, and Sandpoint.  There is an expanded section on Magnimar in the Shattered Star Player's Guide.  It's important because you'll be spending a lot of time in that city...

Anyway, what's going on?  We are actually going to start in Sandpoint.  You need to figure out why your character is there (traits). The short adventure I'll be using to get you all together as a party will also lead directly into meeting key NPCs and getting initiated into the Pathfinder Society.

The stretch of coastal land along the eastern side of the Varisian Gulf from Riddleport down to Magnimar is called the Lost Coast.  You need to learn to love it...because you will need to save it!

If you really wanted to get into the flavor of the campaign, the single best supplement is the Pathfinder Player Companion: Varisia, Birthplace of Legends.

Shattered Star is Rising

Long time no see...sorry about that. Anyway, my old gaming gang is getting back together and we're going to play! I tried like crazy to push the OSR but after talking it through we settled on Pathfinder.

Then after much deliberating we pretty unanimously voted for starting the Shattered Star campaign.

Man there is a lot to do to get ready. I'll be starting another post to act as the hub for campaign and character prep.

Good times are ahead - I can't wait!!!

Now to go brush up on the Community Use stuff so I'll know what I can and can't upload...

S&W Gnomes II

A little while back I did some research on all there is to know about gnomes in Swords & Wizardry.  It seems that monster books are the leading authority on the subject.  This is good news since Frog God Games just released Tome of Horrors 4.  If you really hurry you can pick up a copy before the price goes up day after tomorrow...

Anyway, here are a few gnomish lore tidbits (spoilers?):

Nasty, nasty stuff lives in the deep vaults beneath the gnomehold of Ozgalot in the Garnet Hills (p. 94).  There are silver mines like no other place.  And there are strange alchemical delights to be found in the upper reaches.  And later it is again mentioned that gnomes inhabit the hills between the valley halflings and the dwarves (and worse) from (under) the mountains.  Whenever there is a festival, racial tensions are left behind as gnomes cheer side by side with duergar and drow (p. 99).

Gnomes are skilled illusionists (p. 108) and will tinker with devices other races leave on the drawing boards (p. 98).

It's not much, but at least this go around we don't hear about the endless attacks from mythical creatures...

Finally, while maybe not cannon, the Stoneheart Valley campaign mentions gnomes along with "other Under Realms races" (p. 109).  Very peculiar....
